Tools for Empowering Student Learners
The first strand of the ISTE Standards for Students is Empowered Learner. An Empowered Learner takes an “active role in choosing, achieving and demonstrating competency in their learning goals, informed by the learning sciences”. I asked my Introduction the Educational Technology students for their favorite tools for empowering student learning. I thought I would share. Here are their responses:
I enjoyed learning Prezi because it empowers students to learn a new tool or skill at their own speed. Instead of a set pace like a PowerPoint, Prezi is interactive and they can go back to sections if they need more clarification or skip sections they already know. @GilroyKennedy
I enjoyed learning Quizlet as it provides students with various ways to review material at their own pace. @JohnAgostino8
Adobe Spark was the game changer for me because of the professional, easily navigated product. @joannagwarren
Flipgrid gives students the opportunity to share their thoughts and thinking as well as respond to their peers. New features allow students to create diagrams and show their work. @ScholesE15
Great tool to empower ELL students Duolingo – It’s easy to use from any device, teachers/parents can monitor progress, and it has personalized lessons. I have a lot of new arrivals in my class & this will empower them with the English Language. @teacher_247
